I’ve been running Mainspring since 1984, back when Alamo Heights was mostly single-story ranch homes with hand-me-down wooden doors that weighed a ton. Started out of a used pickup with a box of springs and a dial phone in my kitchen. Still answer that same number myself some nights when the calls roll over. I’ve watched enough YouTube “experts” wind up in the ER to know that torsion spring work isn’t a hobby. These days I handle the estimates, make sure our trucks stay stocked, and check in on jobs until I’m satisfied they’re done right. My wife says I talk about door balance at dinner. She’s not wrong.
Mike R., Lead Technician
Mike’s been with us fourteen years, and he’s the one we send when a door’s doing something weird that nobody can diagnose. Factory-trained on LiftMaster, Genie, and Chamberlain openers, plus he carries a certification in commercial-grade fire-door systems from Wayne Dalton. He lives in Terrell Hills, so he knows how the limestone substrate around Alamo Heights shifts in dry spells and throws off door alignment. Off the clock, Mike rebuilds vintage motorcycles and applies the same patience to a 1973 Honda that he does to a stubborn torsion spring. Customers ask for him by name.
Dolores V., Senior Installer
Dolores joined us in 2019 after eight years with a Clopay-certified dealer in Houston. She’s installed everything from basic steel panels in Olmos Park bungalows to full custom Amarr carriage-house doors in Monte Vista. Her specialty is precision measuring on older homes where nothing is square anymore. She’ll spend twenty minutes with a level rather than shim a door into looking straight. Dolores keeps a notebook of every oddball framing situation she’s seen, which now runs past two hundred entries. She coaches youth softball in her free time and treats every jobsite like the team depends on her.
James T., Service Coordinator
James is the voice you actually reach when you call (830) 364-5701 at midnight on a Sunday. He’s been dispatching our Alamo Heights crew for six years and knows which technician has what parts on which truck at any given hour. Before this, he ran logistics for a commercial HVAC outfit, so he’s fanatical about arrival windows that mean something. James lives near the McNay and can tell you which streets flood in a hard rain, which matters when we’re routing around summer storms. He keeps a standing desk, drinks too much coffee, and has never once put a caller into voicemail.
Elena M., Apprentice Technician
Elena started with us in 2023 after completing the garage door technician program at St. Philip’s College. She’s working her way through journeyman hours under Mike’s supervision and has already developed a knack for cable replacement on older Raynor doors that are getting scarce in parts. Born and raised in Alamo Heights, she knows the neighborhood names and the quirks of the local housing stock better than most of us. Elena asks more questions than anyone on the team, which is exactly what you want in someone who’ll be running her own truck in a couple years. She runs half-marathons and claims the training helps her haul extension springs up ladders.
